3 Recipes for a Healthier Thanksgiving Dinner

    Thanksgiving dinner can often have an overwhelming amount of food or unhealthy food options available. Not lusty at all. Well, being healthy is an essential component of being sexual, let's talk about healthy recipes. Resident mom and chef extraordinaire, GetLusty's Eileen Prouffe is here to help you come up with a few healthier recipes so you don't have to feel bloated and lethargic when you finish your Thanksgiving meal this year. After all, you want to save room to show your special someone how thankful you really are.

    #1 For stuffing, go vegan!

    Stuffing is most people's favorite part of the turkey dinner, but it can become a very fatty dish that's also full of carbs.  Don't worry, I have come to the rescue and don't get me wrong, I love my grandmother's original stuffing recipe that consisted of not only a lot of white bread, but also sausage. However, there are healthier ways to make the same type of stuffing now a days.

    I add green apple to my stuffing to add a little bit of natural fruit that gives off excellent flavors. Plus, you can add vegetarian base instead of chicken. Lastly, use multi-grain or wheat bread instead of white bread. I grew up on wheat bread and I honestly never buy white bread.

    I understand that Thanksgiving happens once a year and some people just want to splurge, but if you are hosting Thanksgiving or have the opportunity to make a dish to bring to someone's house then it will only benefit you and the ones you love to make a better choice.  Also, some people may not even notice the difference and if they do, they'll probably love it.  Believe me, you will feel better after the meal and the next day as well.  Laying on the couch with your belly sticking out for the rest of Thanksgiving Day doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun now does it?     #2 Better potatoes

    Another part of Thanksgiving that most people cannot do without is potatoes, which are usually mashed, but  I have two options for this dilemma. The first one is layered potatoes. You can use sliced regular baking potatoes with half sweet potatoes and layer them in a casserole dish sort of like scalloped potatoes or you can make mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes with a little cinnamon and a few pecans (you would make separately).

    Nuts are very healthy in small quantities and spices are great for our bodies too. Reducing the amount of starchy foods we eat can help us to remain fuller longer. Sweet potatoes have more fiber than a regular white potato so, we may end up eating a little bit less and staying full longer if we add some sweet potatoes to our dish plus, they have extra vitamins that white potatoes do not have.  This is also a great vegetarian dish!

    #3 Cranberry sauce

    It's a little embarrassing, but yes, I grew up on canned cranberry sauce like many of us probably have. But until I discovered how easy and delicious it is to make my own fresh cranberry sauce, I was eating the jellied round blob of so-called cranberry.

    One Thanksgiving, I was at my aunt's house and tried her homemade cranberry sauce and it was just delicious because of the flavors it had. I asked her what her recipe was and she said she found it from Martha Stewart. I don't think I found the exact recipe and not sure if she wanted me to, but basically, it's not too expensive to make your own. A bag of fresh cranberries should do for about an 8 person dinner and you pretty much just boil them down a little bit with a bit of water, orange zest, a tad of sugar to taste, and cinnamon sticks. Voila!  Better tasting and better for you cranberry sauce.  Enjoy!
